Memorial Day is almost here. The end of May has been the traditional remembrance day of those who died in active military service since 1868. Much has changed in our country and in our military services since then, but never has the mission changed. We give thanks, as a nation, for those who have made the intimate sacrifice for all of us. We hope that you will be able to spend the usually beautiful spring weekend with family and friends reflecting on the sacrifice of others.
This year there is a new and exciting project that just might be the key to your remembrance. The WASP Gravesite Project is in full swing. Information available from many sources as to the location of gravesites of our departed WASP Flying Sisters is being compiled by WAI Intern Abby Welch. She has assembled a database for your reference and the idea is to find, visit and place an American flag on all of the graves.
Check out the WEBSITE to find sites near you, and get more information in the article below. Grab a flag or two, a GPS, a picnic basket and hit the road. I personally will be teaming up with the North Texas WAI Chapter to visit several of the gravesites in the Dallas area. There are quite a few of these pioneers resting in the area, and I will take lots of pictures. Researching the website, I even found one lady that was born and buried in my father's home town. That will be a trip in the future. Be sure to take pictures and send them to The Flyer Editor.
