Lieutenant Colonel Victoria A. Calhoun was born in Madrid, Spain 1961. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia in 1983 and was commissioned through ROTC at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia. She holds a Master of Military Art and Science from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Her military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Junior Officers Maintenance Course, Rotary Wing Qualification Course, CH47 Qualification Course, Aviation Officers Advance Course, Command and Services Staff School, Material Acquisition Management Course, and the Command and General Staff College.
Lieutenant Colonel Calhoun has had a variety of assignments including: Joint Staff Officer, Directorate for Operational Plans and Joint Force Development (J7), Joint Education Branch, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, DC; Inspector General, US Army Research Laboratory, Adelphi, Maryland; Commander, A Company 2-52nd Aviation Regiment, Camp Humphrey, Korea; Logistics Staff Officer, Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee, Virginia; Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-159th Aviation Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; S-1 and Assistant S-3, 2-159th Aviation Regiment, Saudi Arabia; Operations Officer, Executive Officer, Platoon Leader, 180th Aviation Company, Schwabish Hall, Germany and Assistant S-1, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 11th Aviation Group, Schwabish Hall, Germany.
She has1107 total flight hours as an Army Aviator and 22 combat flight hours from operations in Saudi Arabia and Iraq with the 18th Aviation Brigade. Her primary aircraft is the CH-47 and is also qualified in the UH-1.
Her service in South West Asia allowed her to be the first women in the 18th Aviation brigade to arrive in theater, 8 days after the operation began, as a member of the Brigade Advance Party. She also participated in the Corps Air Assault Operation of the 101st Airborne to the Euphrates River, 90 miles into Iraq, on days 2 and 3 of the ground war. Her service there resulted in the award of two air medals for air operations in South West Asia during her 8-month tour there.
